Budget-Friendly Family Fun in Wimberley, TX: Cypress, Blue Hole & Old Baldy

Are you looking for an easy, budget-friendly family adventure in Texas? Wimberley, TX, is a hidden gem that offers stunning natural beauty, exciting hiking trails, and crystal-clear swimming spots—all without breaking the bank! On our recent trip, we explored Cypress Creek Nature Trail, Blue Hole Park, and Old Baldy Park, and we’re excited to share why these spots should be on your must-visit list.

Cypress Creek Nature Trail and Preserve: Majestic Bald Cypress Trees & Clear Waters

Our adventure began at Cypress Creek Nature Trail and Preserve, where we hiked a scenic trail along the stunning Cypress Creek. This park is home to some of the largest and most unique Bald Cypress trees we’ve ever seen. One massive tree was even hollowed out enough for both Chico and me to stand inside—such a cool experience!

As we walked the trails, we encountered some cool art installations and breathtaking views of Cypress Creek, which was an enchanting shade of clear blue. It’s the perfect place to snap photos, enjoy a relaxing nature walk, or simply marvel at the beauty of Texas’ great outdoors.

Blue Hole Park: A Stunning Swimming Hole

Next, we made our way to Blue Hole Park, a well-known swimming spot in Wimberley. Even though we visited outside of swimming season, it was still an incredible place to explore. The water here is an unbelievable shade of teal blue, and we enjoyed sitting by the creek on the Pool Lawn, watching fish swim through the crystal-clear water.

During summer, Blue Hole Park comes alive with activity—visitors can cool off in the creek using the step ladders and swinging ropes installed along the water’s edge. If you’re planning a summer visit, this is definitely a must-do for families looking for a fun and free way to enjoy the Texas heat!

Old Baldy Park: A Short Hike with a Big Reward

Our final stop was Old Baldy Park, where we took on the challenge of climbing the 218 rock steps to the summit. It was a short but steep hike, and the breathtaking panoramic views at the top made every step worth it!

We arrived in the late afternoon, just in time to witness a stunning Texas sunset. Our kiddos loved sitting along the edge, taking in the scenery and soaking up the peaceful vibes. If you’re up for a short hike with a big scenic payoff, Old Baldy is the place to be!

Why Wimberley is a Budget-Friendly Family Destination

One of the best things about Wimberley is that all three of these parks are completely free to visit! You can enjoy a full day of adventure without spending a dime, making it perfect for families looking for an affordable outdoor getaway.

Beyond the parks, Wimberley is also home to a charming historical downtown with beautiful artisan shops, local eateries, and unique finds. On our next visit, we plan to explore the shops and check out Jacob’s Well, another popular natural attraction in the area.
